Reid Peppard's RP/Encore collection is comprised of Roadkill which she has put through the process of Taxidermy. This collection features a variety of critters one might find roaming the streets, nearby park or forest. Along side the process of taxidermy she has also cast teeth, bones and organs into silver gold and gold plated jewellery.
While sporting the full caracas of a recently deceased animal might seem incredibly obnoxious, one must ask the question how different is this from wearing a leather jacket? Shoes? Purse? I recently acquired a butter soft leather jacket (thanks to the universe and a gracious %65 off sale) and it occurred to met that PETA would treat us both the same. My gorgeous leather jacket is just a more consumer friendly, less visually agressive version.
Although I won't be sporting a headband of bedazzled rats anytime soon, I really appreciate the bravery of her work. In an interview I recently viewed on youtube, she discusses a 'Pet' collection in the works. I'm very curious to see how that one will be received. Way to push the bar! After all what is Art if not limitless?
